MARTIN SCORSESE. KILLERS & FLOWERS

MARTIN SCORSESE. KILLERS & FLOWERS

Soggettiva Gallery presents from Tuesday 17 October 2023 the new exhibition: MARTIN SCORSESE. KILLERS & FLOWERS

dedicated to alternative movie posters and artworks inspired by the great Italian-American director and his most famous films, author of one of the most anticipated film releases of autumn: “Killers of the Flower Moon” by Martin Scorsese.

The exhibition celebrates one of the most important film releases of the fall, KILLERS OF THE FLOWER MOON by MARTIN SCORSESE.

From Tuesday 17 October 2023

“MARTIN SCORSESE. KILLERS & FLOWERS”

The exhibition MARTIN SCORSESE. KILLERS & FLOWERS, from 17 October, refers to Killers of the Flower Moon – the latest film by Martin Scorsese presented out of competition at the Cannes Film Festival and out in Italian cinemas on October 19 – and pays homage to the career more than five years of one of the fathers of New Hollywood and cinema contemporary.

THE ARTWORKS

For the occasion, Soggettiva Gallery has commissioned four original works, three by Fredlobo Lopez, French illustrator and digital artist, and one by Stefania Gagliano, painter with other collaborations with the gallery:  Fredlobo has reinterpreted great classics like Raging Bull, The Wolf of Wall Street – exuberant portrait of a certain American society that recently turned 10 – and The Last Temptation of Christ.

Stefania Gagliano, on the other hand, has ventured with The Age of Innocence – the cornerstone of the New York director’s poetics 30 years after its release in theaters – creating a limited edition print in which each copy is different from the other.

LOSE YOURSELF IN NEW YORK (BY TAXI)

If you love Taxi Driver you can not miss the unprecedented perspective through which Tomasz Majewski reinterpreted the film: the profile of De Niro, unforgettable in his interpretation of Travis Bickle, becomes one with the taxi service map of New York.

It is again the Big Apple to be the backdrop to Gangs of New York: The Alternative Movie Poster by Jessica Deahl offers a representation, halfway between anatomical study and geographical map, of New York in the mid-nineteenth century, the scene of bloody clashes between criminal gangs.

GANGSTERS WANNABE

For his third feature, Scorsese takes a looser approach to storytelling. With Mean Streets we don’t witness the epic rise and fall of powerful criminals, but the daily events of a group of low-level mafia. In Mean Street we can admire in an unfinished form the style of whom will soon become a Maestro.

ONE OF HIS DARKEST MOVIES

Shutter Island is one of Martin Scorsese’s most gothic, claustrophobic and airtight films. A relentless psycho-thriller, where not a single minute passes without that sense of anguish recreated also and above all with precise images, in which the blinding light alternates with the pitch dark.

overdose of images and sounds

Casino marks a clear break from Scorsese’s cinematic past: the hyperrealism of the narration, the violent and grotesque staging, the syncopated and frenetic montage stop being characteristic of a style and become an integral part of a story, a way of narrating events. Casino is like an immersion in apnea, a crazy and desperate race without moments of pause, an overdose of images, words, sounds.

THE COEN BROTHERS AND 25 YEARS SINCE THE BIG LEBOWSKI

THE COEN BROTHERS AND 25 YEARS SINCE THE BIG LEBOWSKI

24 September 2023
Foto alternative movie poster del film Il grande Lebowski (portrait) | Dave O Flanagan | Coen | Soggettiva Gallery Milano

Soggettiva Gallery presents, from tuesday 3 October 2023, the new exhibition: THE COEN BROTHERS AND 25 YEARS SINCE THE BIG LEBOWSKI

The show – an exploration of the cinematic imagery of the two American directors, full of both violence and poetry – will debut just before the release of Drive-Away Dolls, their latest cinematic effort.

The new exhibition celebrates one of the most important film releases of the fall, DRIVE-AWAY DOLLS by ETHAN COEN.

Since Tuesday 3 October 2023

“THE COEN BROTHERS AND 25 YEARS SINCE THE BIG LEBOWSKI”

A stunning collection, designed as a celebration: on the one hand, the 25th anniversary since the release of The Big Lebowski – made unforgettable by the extraordinary performance of Jeff Bridges as “The Dude” –, on the other hand the imminent release of Drive-Away Dolls by Ethan Coen.

THE EXHIBITION

“THE COEN BROTHERS AND 25 YEARS SINCE THE BIG LEBOWSKI” is the tribute that Soggettiva Gallery reserves to the films by the Coen Brothers on the occasion of the release of their new road-movie Drive-Away Dolls, scheduled for October 5, 2023

THE ARTWORKS

The Big Lebowski is the absolute protagonist of the show : the posters by Dave O’Flanagan and Malone offer an unprecedented point of view on this extraordinary cult. Particularly original is the reinterpretation offered by Casey Callender, which mixes Lebowski with Steven Spielberg’s E.T imaginery. The exhibition includes works dedicated to Coen films such as No Country for Old Men, Fargo, True Grit, Barton Fink and Blood Simple.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DUDE!

Upon its release on US screens in 1998, The Big Lebowski did not get the expected response. Yet, in the following years, the film has turned into a real cult object and will soon return to the cinema in a restored version by the Cineteca di Bologna.

What are the reasons for such an idolatry towards this film? First of all, the mix of genres such as noir, musical, western, among which the comic and ironic register is imposed. Secondly, cinematic allusions and quotations. Finally, the dreamlike and surreal aspect, which enriches the narrative with recourse to the dream and the grotesque.

THE COMEDIES

Awarded in 1991 at Cannes FIlm Festival, Barton Fink is the title that made the two brothers of Minnesota famous for the first time, and still remains one of their most fascinating and mysterious films.

Inside Llewyn Davis is dense with emotions, artistic talent and the typical Coen Brothers’s grotesque atmosphere. The laughter, the bizarre expressions of the characters, the hypnotic atmospheres and the original car movements make it an essential part of the cinematography of Joel and Ethan Coen.

KILLERS AND DETECTIVES

Half road movie and half theater of the absurd, but also acute black comedy able to skillfully blend comedy and tragedy in a continuous reflecting game between literature, theater and life, Fargo is a great example of fiction, yet, on the black screen, an epigraph warns us that what we are about to see is inspired by true story.

The story of Blood Simple follows a noir plot, with a love triangle, murders, blood and tension: but the ability of the Coen Brothers (Joel, credited as director, and Ethan, only as producer) is precisely in subverting the rules of a genre that they know well and with which they have grown, in order to deconstruct and restructure it in a totally different and atypical way.

NEW WESTERN

With No Country for Old Men, the Coen Brothers return to their origins, to their favorite atmospheres, examining the many consequences that pure chance can bring with it in human relationships. For the first time in his career, the Minneapolis duo wrote a screenplay adapting a text by a well-known author, Cormac McCarthy.

When they approach a new genre Coen Brothers always make it their own, using it to blend their poetics of the transience of the human being, but at the same time they deeply respect the rules of the genre itself: that’s what happens for True Grit and for the western genre that the film belongs to.

GANGSTERS

If there is one thing that the Coens know how to do it is to build surprising plots, with complex and often brilliant twists. Miller’s Crossing makes no exception: while displayinga substantial linearity at the narrative level (no flashbacks), this does not prevent the Coen to enact unpredictible turns.

A “TWO-HEADED” DIRECTOR

Coen films and characters are very difficult to forget, succeeding in insinuating themselves into the deepest meanders of our psychology: a cinema capable of expressing lightness and crude originality at the same time, just like the Alternative Movie Poster exhibited at Soggettiva Gallery.

ANDERSON CITY PALETTE

ANDERSON CITY PALETTE

Photo alternative movie poster Grand Budapest Hotel (pink) regia di yes Andrson | Adam Juresko | Soggettiva Gallery

Soggettiva Gallery presents, from Wednesday 20 September 2023 the new exhibition:
ANDERSON CITY PALETTE

The show, focused on the chromatic combinations that the director is renowned for, will debut just before the cinema debut of Asteroid City, the new film by Wes Anderson

The new exhibitions opens to celebrate one of the most important film releases of the fall, ASTEROID CITY by WES ANDERSON, crowded with Hollywood stars and eagerly awaited by fans.

From Wednesday 20 SEPTEMBER 2023

“ANDERSON CITY PALETTE”

An unmissable collection, focused on the studied chromatic combinations that together with the visual symmetry and a unique storytelling style have made immortal films such as The Royal Tenenbaums or The Grand Budapest Hotel.

THE EXHIBTION

The posters on display – with a special setting that pays tribute to the famous chromatic choices made by the Texan director, which are able to exponentially amplify the emotions conveyed by the characters of his films – are inspired by films that have helped define the unmistakable style that still distinguishes the cinema of Wes Anderson.

THE ARTWORKS

Among others, The Life Acquatic with Steve Zissou and The Royal Tenenbaums, whose posters were made by Matthew Rabalais and Max Dalton respectively. Then the animated films, such as Isle of Dogs, which Raphael Kelly was inspired by composing a poster that recalls the shapes and colors of the flag of Japan, the country where the narrative is set.

For the occasion Soggettiva Gallery has commissioned 4 works: two reworkings of The Grand Budapest Hotel by Adam Juresko and Veronica Chessa (in the form of boul de neige) who also signs an alternative version of The French Dispatch beyond the one by the the illustrator Giacomo Bettiol.

ANDERSON CITY

The infinite details and the thousand attentions in the films of Wes Anderson together with the brilliance of the colors and their calibration form a unitary and coherent system that denotes its unusual aesthetic and artistic sense. The three keys to understand Wes Anderson’s style are: an impeccable management of the color palette an innate gift for proportions and symmetries and an aesthetic with a nostalgic tone.

COLOR PALETTE

Therefore, for Wes Anderson, colors are not an additional and almost obvious component of the film, but an element that determines its frame and the final result that otherwise would not be so convincing and engaging.

If there is anything that identifies this director, it is the use of colors and the ability to match them. Those who see his films know that he prefers pastel tones. What causes through the use of colors is pure synesthesia, that reaction of our senses through which we evoke emotions without needing words.

THE CHROMATIC EMOTION

Colors and their combinations play, on an unconscious level, a fundamental role in watching a film and therefore on the involvement of the audience.

Wes Anderson uses his aesthetic technique of the use of color, framing and symmetries not only to the aesthetic end, but looking into the form of the true substance, with the aim of emphasizing the inner aspects of the characters, as a function of psychology by making sure that the characteristics of the protagonists are reflected in the aesthetic that represents them.

THE COMPOSITION

The shades of colors present in each scene harmonize as in a painting and every moment taken is combined with a color palette. What is striking about the director is the desire to transform cinema into a composition. A painting of a painter with complementary colors and at the same time nuanced. The work on colors, symmetry and framing are as protagonists as the story of the film. The chromatic choices become a way to relate the characters to the space that surrounds them and a way to emphasize the sensations and emotions of the same. (Giulia Notari)

MATTER OF DETAILS

Another feature that represents the director is geometry. It manages to create neat and perfect settings that make sense within the story. His sets are like little postcards full of details. Every table, every bookcase, every wall is a world of its own.

RETRO’ NOSTALGIA

Nostalgia for the past is the third element in Wes Anderson’s aesthetics. Everything has a retro feel, although there are modern elements here and there. Look for classic pieces, antiques that evoke travel, each with a specific meaning. No matter how charged the decoration may seem, there will never be an object that has no meaning.

SHOT BY WES

At the base of each of his films there is a rigid list of rules: the shots are always frontal, fixed to be noted a strong obsession with the composition of the filmic scenario. There is also bilateral symmetry, present in each scene, nothing in front of the camera is out of place, the vanishing point is always in the center to create a central perspective, also uses side scrolling and panoramic from above. These techniques and especially the use of color create an artificial narrative and a surreal feeling. Anderson makes us see the real world but especially the inner world of the characters, emphasizing the moods and emotions of the same.

STEPHEN KING. THE BEST OF

STEPHEN KING. THE BEST OF
30 August 2023

SOGETTIVA GALLERY PRESENTS, FROM TUESDAY 5 SEPTEMBER 2023, THE NEW EXHIBITION: STEPHEN KING. BEST OF

AN EXHIBITION WHICH, PAYING A TRIBUTE TO THE AMERICAN AUTHOR, WILL COLLECT THE WORKS CREATED BY INTERNATIONAL ARTISTS INSPIRED BY THE FILMS BASED ON HIS MOST FAMOUS NOVELS.

The international publication of the latest highly anticipated novel by Stephen King, “Holly” (Sperling & Kupfer), becomes the starting point for a new exhibition dedicated to the great American writer.

“STEPHEN KING. THE BEST OF”

Impossible to mention all the films that have been based on the books of one of the most important and prolific American authors. We have made a selection…obviously not exhaustive.

STAND BY ME – MEMORIES OF A SUMMER

“I never again had friends like the ones I had when I was 12.” Rob Reiner’s Stand by me is a journey back to that age, the memory of a long, adventurous walk of 4 twelve year olds for two days in the late summer of 1959. From a novel by the king of horror, Stephen King, a film able to bring back the difficult farewell to adolescence. A miraculous balance of memory between feeling and adventure. Truffaut would have liked it.

THE GREEN MILE

“I’m tired, boss. Tired of always walking around alone like a sparrow in the rain. Tired of never being able to have a friend with me to tell me where we’re going, where we’re from and why. I’m especially tired of the evil that men do to all other men. Tired of all the pain I feel, I hear in the world every day, there’s too much for me. It’s like having pieces of glass stuck in your head all the time. Do you understand this?” John Coffey “The Gentle Giant” in The Green Mile

The film is based on one of Stephen King’s most famous novels, The Green Mile. King published the story in 1997 in 6 installments, recalling the style of Charles Dickens. Director Frank Darabont therefore had to bring everything together in a single script and this was no easy feat. In fact, Stephen King himself claimed not to envy Darabont because bringing everything together in a single script was not quite easy.

The mouse nicknamed Mr. Jingles was no ordinary animal. In fact, he was selected from more than 30 trained mice! The little mouse is now a very famous figure in the cinematic imagination, so much so that it has several Facebook pages dedicated to him!

Dominique Byron, who created this work, is an illustrator and graphic designer from Manchester. Expert and passionate about Cinema, she loves using bold colors and geometric shapes with a particular fondness for architecture.

CHRISTINE

Stephen King had announced the production of what will be the remake of Christine: Hell Machine, cult film of 1983 adapted from his novel of the same name by director John Carpenter. The story revolves around a shy teenager who starts fixing a ’58 Plymouth Fury, finding that the activity helps him come out of his shell. Things get very dangerous, however, when he discovers that the car has its own evil mind. One of King’s most famous and iconic stories of the 80s, which marked and told an era.

The making of this work is by Mike Lucido, an artist, photographer, videographer, graphic designer and illustrator from Nevada. He couldn’t help but enjoy reinterpreting this Stra-Cult.

IT

Pennywise is undoubtedly the most POP horror clown ever! The terrible sequence in which little Georgie, in pursuit of his paper boat, is about to put his hand in the manhole where the dancing clown lurks voraciously is one of the best-known scenes that has remained etched in the memory of those who have read the novel , of those who have seen the 1990 TV miniseries with Tim Curry and of those who have tasted the latest and most explicit version that has arrived at the cinema.

King’s novel of the same name was first published in 1986 and immediately became a literary classic. To this day it is considered one of the best and most authoritative works of the undisputed master of horror. A novel that has terrified generations of readers for decades.

The re-opening of Soggettiva Gallery after the summer will be characterised by the inauguration of “The Art of Movie Poster”, a survey on the extraordinary development that graphic art in the form of posters underwent in Poland after the Second World War, in particular aimed at revisiting the cinematic universe in a completely new and original way.

Among the works that will be displayed there are two classics of Hollywood cinema such as Casablanca by Micheal Curtiz, one of the most famous love stories in cinema history, the one between Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman, and Boogie Nights by Paul Thomas Anderson, who, at the age of 27, established himself among the most prominent authors of American cinematography, a role he still plays today. Both posters are signed by Andrzej Krajewski, one of the leading exponents of the school of cinema illustration which was formed in Poland after the end of the Second World War:  the communist regime censored much of Western cultural production, allowing a generation of Polish artists to develop a completely original style detached from the communication standards now established in the West, conceiving the film poster not as a commercial vehicle but as a work of art in its own right. A giant of Polish cinema such as Krzysztof Kieślowski will instead be represented by three posters inspired by the Three Colours trilogy, including Three Colours: Red, created by Hong Kong-born artist Victo Ngai.

FROM PAST TO PRESENT

“Stalin and the Soviets did not know it but, when they took possession of Poland after the Second World War, they contributed to the birth of the so-called Polish School of Posters, which managed to transform the impositions and cages on freedom of expression into a stimulus for extraordinary experiments in illustration and graphics, also taking the liberty of mocking the regime in a subtle way, through metaphors and symbols.
Female artists and poster artists took advantage of this to let their imagination run wild and to explore new horizons without having to submit to commercial pressure.
From this situation a real artistic movement flourished for which the successful expression “Polish School of Posters” was coined.
In a country hungry for culture, posters displaying plays or films could be found everywhere. Moreover, not knowing the original posters, painters and illustrators invented completely new ones, often much more interesting and fascinating than those present on our streets and in front of our cinemas.”

THE SIXTH SENSE OF SOGGETTIVA

THE SIXTH SENSE OF SOGGETTIVA
17 May 2023

SOGGETTIVA GALLERY PRESENTS, SINCE TUE 23 MAY 2023, THE NEW EXHIBITION
THE SIXTH SENSE OF SOGGETTIVA

a summary of the first six thematic exhibitions conceived since the opening of the Milanese gallery on 17 November 2022.

Since Tuesday 23 May 2023 the new exhibition

“THE SIXTH SENSE OF SOGGETTIVA”

The best artworks that characterized Soggettiva Gallery’s programming, together with the six exhibitions presented since its establishment, are now on display to celebrate the first six months since the opening of the first space in Italy to be dedicated to the world of Alternative Movie Posters.

THE HOLY MOUNTAIN

For the occasion, Soggettiva Gallery also celebrates the 50th anniversary since the release of Alejandro Jodorowsky’s masterpiece The Holy Mountain with an extraordinary artwork created by the internationally renowned illustrator MURUGIAH.

CELEBRATING OZU ON THE SUMMER SOLSTICE

The program continues from June 20, at the turn of spring and summer, with a focus on the Japanese director Yasujirō Ozu, since it is both the anniversary of his birth (1903) and his death (1963). The show celebrates, in particular, the films that Ozu created after changing seasons, such as Early Summer and Late Spring, to which the New York artist Katherine Lam dedicates two works characterised by poetic tones.  The posters by Tom Hugomat and Joseph Chiang that reimagine Tokyo Story, distributed exactly 70 years ago, also focus on the seasons, this time intended as life phases.

ALTERNATIVE MOVIE POSTERS…WHAT ELSE?

Soggettiva Gallery confirms itself as a reference point for Italian and international fans of the contamination between cinema and other art forms: from graphic design to illustration and engraving. Alternative Movie Posters, refined re-interpretation of the traditional movie posters by international artists, quickly aroused the affection and appreciation of cinephiles on the one hand and lovers of beauty on the other

SIX MONTHS…SIX EXHIBITIONS…THE SIXTH SENSE OF SOGGETTIVA

To celebrate its first six months of life, Soggettiva Gallery retraces the steps of its path started with MONSTERS (Sacred) vs MONSTERS (And that’s it) – unprecedented dialogue between cult films and monstrous creatures like Godzilla and King Kong – and culminated in April, during the Milan Design Week, with Perspective: Artistic Movie Poster, which featured the architecture and geographies of the most visionary movies of the last decades.

In the middle, Unconventional Christmas, which focused on artworks that offer a new pespective on the movie we love the most, Christmas’ ones.

Then, Lynch Highway, where the red curtain opened on movie posters inspired by American grotesque’s master, David Lynch.

What about love? The Mood for Love displayed the greatest love stories of Cinema (the reference, obviously, is to the iconic film by Hong Kong director Wong Kar-wai.

Finally, Tarantino and friends – a dive into the great titles that have marked the career of the most Pulp director ever.

THE SIXTH SENSE OF SOGGETTIVA kicks off with three sacred monsters of cinema: the artist Adam Maida made a psychedelic reinterpretation of Stalker by Andrej Tarkovskij, while Adam Juresko tributes Federico Fellini’s La Dolce Vita and David Cronenberg’s The Fly.

Actual monsters will be celebrated with the reinterpretation of the terrifying Godzilla by Francesco Casolari.

There could not be a less conventional Christmas than the one celebrated in May:  Simone Macciocchi pays homage to Nightmare Before Christmas by Tim Burton with a series of unique artworks.

Bartosz Kosowski and Przemek Debowski, two artists of the Polish school, drew inspiration from David Lynch’s timeless films offering their original vision of Lost Highway and Dune, while Adam Juresko confronted himself with the iconic Twin Peaks.

The works of Silvia Cocomazzi come directly from the Milan School of Comics: they all concentrate on the extraordinary films by Wong Kar-wai, in particular In the Mood for Love.

There will be the Alternative Movie Posters related to the most recent exhibitions as well: the entire cinematic universe of Quentin Tarantino is summarized in the work that Ape Meets Girl reserves to Pulp Fiction, while Uma Thurman, in the role of The Bride in Kill Bill, inspired the evocative poster by Mark Reihill.

Finally, on display, the most famous architectures appeared in the history of cinema, two of which in New York: The Royal Tenenbaum’s reassuring house, re-designed by George Townley, and the definitely more disturbing Rosemary’s Baby’s building, re-imagined by Max Dalton.

SOGGETTIVA GALLERY COMES WHERE YOU ARE

QUENTIN TARANTINO.

Alternative movie poster Kill Bill Vol.1 (Bride) | Quentin Tarantino| Mark Reihill | Soggettiva Gallery Milano

Alternative movie poster Le iene | Reservoir dogs (glasses) | Quentin Tarantino| Daniel Castro Maia | Soggettiva Gallery Milano

Alternative movie poster Le iene (Dog) | Quentin Tarantino| Adam Juresko | Soggettiva Gallery Milano

…PIOVONO PREMI. PULP FICTION.

Alternative movie poster Pulp Fiction (Bruce) | Quentin Tarantino| Monkey meets girl | Soggettiva Gallery Milano

…”UN PASSO FALSO”? FORSE NO.  JACKIE BROWN.

Alternative movie poster Jackie Brown | Quentin Tarantino| Ellie Lees | Soggettiva Gallery Milano

BANG BANG (My Baby Shot Me Down). KILL BILL

GRANDISSIMO ENNIO. THE HATEFUL EIGHT

...FRIENDS AND MASTERS

SOGGETTIVA GALLERY PRESENTS, SINCE TUE 18 APR 2023 THE NEW EXHIBITION PERSPECTIVES: ARTISTIC MOVIE POSTER

A JUMP INTO THE WORLD OF ARCHITECTURE AND DESIGN MADE ON THE OCCASION OF THE FUORISALONE OF THE 2023 MILANO DESIGN WEEK.

MILANO DESIGN WEEK 23.

Since Tuesday 18 Apr 2023 the new Exhibition

“PERSPECTIVES: ARTISTIC MOVIE POSTER”

The exhibition brings together over forty unpublished works that explore the many suggestions and inspirations that architecture and interior design have drawn from the world of cinema, exploring the multiple points of contact between the two forms of creativity.

A selection of works of art and Alternative Movie Posters that explore the many suggestions and inspirations that the concept of “space”, with its “interiors” and its “exteriors”, have produced in the world of cinema.

Buildings that have become iconic for having hosted sets of famous films are flanked by architectures created starting from the cinematographic work, cadastral maps of

real cities are accompanied by topographies of imaginary places in an exhibition itinerary that reveals how the fascination of cinematic fiction is able to shape reality and vice versa.

CINEMA INTERIORS

With the Home Sweet Home series, Pascal Witaszek reproduces the floor plans, with attention to the smallest details, of the most famous houses in horror cinema such as The Exorcist and Psycho.

“IN  FRONT OF” NEW YORK

George Townley immortalizes the real New York architectures that have become famous for hosting the settings of great classics such as Ghostbusters and The Royal Tenenbaums.

SECTIONS AND FACADES

Max Dalton has “dissected” some houses (from “Parasite” to “Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind“) proposing the most important moments of the film inside them (moving from one room to another). Just as he illustrated the front perspective of the phantasmagoric Neo-Gothic style apartment building in “Rosemary’s Baby” or the facades of the houses on the streets invaded by animals in “The 12 Monkeys Army

CINEMATOGRAPHIC “ROUTES”

Andrew Degraff, known for his “Cinemaps” and for his work on “illustrated maps”, proposes the “spatial trajectories” that lead the protagonists of the films of Pulp Fiction, King Kong, The Silence of the Lambs, Fargo and Mad Max.

CINEMA EXTERIOR

With his work as a whole, Anthony Petrie almost zooms out from the meticulous interior of Discovery One in “2001 A Space Odyssey” to the radar screen of Liberty Island Security Control in “Escape from New York”, from the Tokyo subway plan in the cult manga “Akira” to the Taxi Service Map of “Taxi Driver“, from the map of the traps in the temple of “Indiana Jones!” until you get further and further away with an orographic map of “The Planet of the Apes

MOVIE PLANS

From the plans and sections of the houses that formed the backdrop for great cinema cults to urban maps that retrace the key places where the events of Fargo or Pulp Fiction unfold up to the unmistakable skyline of King Kong, PERSPECTIVES: ARTISTIC MOVIE POSTER sheds new light on the spaces that the big screen is capable of producing or reproducing, revealing how the fascination of cinematic fiction is sometimes capable of shaping reality and vice versa.

Alternative movie poster Kill Bill Vol.1 (Bride) | Quentin Tarantino| Mark Reihill | Soggettiva Gallery Milano

Alternative movie poster Le iene (Dog) | Quentin Tarantino| Adam Juresko | Soggettiva Gallery Milano

…PIOVONO PREMI. PULP FICTION.

Alternative movie poster Pulp Fiction (Bruce) | Quentin Tarantino| Monkey meets girl | Soggettiva Gallery Milano

…”UN PASSO FALSO”? FORSE NO.  JACKIE BROWN.

Alternative movie poster Jackie Brown | Quentin Tarantino| Ellie Lees | Soggettiva Gallery Milano

BANG BANG (My Baby Shot Me Down). KILL BILL

GRANDISSIMO ENNIO. THE HATEFUL EIGHT

TARANTINO & FRIENDS

TARANTINO & FRIENDS
4 April 2023
Alternative movie poster Tarantino (Portrait) | Quentin Tarantino| Conor Langton | Soggettiva Gallery Milano

“TARANTINO & FRIENDS” 29 mar 2023 – 29 apr 2023
the new exhibition fully dedicated to the master Quentin Tarantino

Quentin Tarantino. The director who loves cinema (even that of others)

From Wednesday 29 March 2023 the new exhibition “TARANTINO & FRIENDS”

More than forty artists from all over the world gathered in the Milanese spaces of Soggettiva Gallery to celebrate the cinema of Quentin Tarantino and the great classics that inspired him.

2023. A SPECIAL YEAR

On March 27, 2023 he celebrates 60 years and does it in the best way. Treating yourself to a world “tour” to accompany the release of your latest book “CINEMA SPECULATION”

…AND THE “BIRTHDAYS” ARE TWO

Indeed, how can we forget that this year Kill Bill, one of the director’s most iconic films, is celebrating its twentieth anniversary.

AND “ICH ON THE CAKE”…

He announced that his next film will start shooting this year (in the fall). The tenth (not counting the episode of “Four Rooms” and considering “Kill Bill Vol.1” and “Vol.2” a single film). And according to his statements (which we hope will be denied) it should be his last work.

…”TARANTINO & FRIENDS” The Exhibition

The exhibition kicks off with the reinterpretations of Adam Juresko, created in collaboration with Milano Print Makers, and with the work on canvas that Cristina Stifanic dedicates to Kill Bill. Deeply original the interpretation of Aaron Lea and Cranio Dsgn, who focused on the soundtracks of Quentin Tarantino’s films to create works that evoke vinyl covers.

…AND IT’S NOT OVER

The profiles of the protagonists of Pulp Fiction by Dakota Randall accompanied by the works of Rich Davies, who transforms the American director’s films into book covers consumed by the time are measured with the iconography inspired by the sacred miniatures of Max Dalton and with the famous “laid tables” that Robin Springett creates by recalling ideas and characters of the films he plays.

...FRIENDS AND MASTERS

There is also a selection of glimpses that explore the masters and titles that have been a source of inspiration for Quentin Tarantino himself. From Roman Polanski’s Rosemary’s Baby, whose appeal is evident in the folds of the plot of Once upon a time in… Hollywood to the great titles of David Lynch and John Carpenter, passing through some of the director’s favorite films such as Jaws, Non open that door and Taxi Driver.

Soggettiva Gallery continues with PERSPECTIVES: ARTISTIC MOVIE POSTER,

the original plunge into the world of design that the gallery presents on the occasion of the Salone International Furniture and Design

There is also a selection of glimpses that explore the masters and titles that have been a source of inspiration for Quentin Tarantino himself. ...FRIENDS AND MASTERS

THE MOOD FOR LOVE

THE MOOD FOR LOVE
Alternative movie poster A Love Story | Max Dalton | Soggettiva Gallery Milano

From 2/11/23 to 3/4/23

THE MOOD FOR LOVE

THE NEW COLLECTIVE EXHIBITION CELEBRATES VALENTINE’S DAY WITH A FOCUS DEDICATED TO THE MOST SIGNIFICANT LOVE STORIES THAT CAME TO LIFE ON THE BIG SCREEN.

THE MOOD FOR LOVE

From Saturday 11 February

The title of the exhibition is taken from the film In The Mood for Love (2000) by director and producer Wong Kar-wai, whose splendid plot is the starting point for a reflection focused on the theme of love in all its many nuances. At the Soggettiva Gallery the absolute loves that have marked the history of cinema through eras, films and cinematographic genres, reinterpreted for the occasion by the variations of eleven international artists.

TRIBUTE TO WONG KAR-WAI

The exhibition opens with Silvia Cocomazzi’s tribute to Wong Kar-wai’s cinema, declined in the four works commissioned by Soggettiva Gallery and dedicated to the films In The Mood for Love (2000), Fallen Angels (1995), Happy Together (1997 ) and Hong Kong Express (1994).

A “LOVE” OF ART

Young artist Adam Juresko makes a triple lunge with his renditions of Nicolas Winding Refn’s Drive (2011), Mike Nichols’ The Graduate (1967) and Michel Gondry’s Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind, I’ll Gate.

Graphic designer and illustrator Raphael Kelly addresses the sentiment that blossomed between the human Theodore and the artificial intelligence Samantha in Spike Jonze’s Her (2013).

The unmistakable style of Colin Verdi offers a poignant interpretation of the famous Moulin Rouge (2001) by Baz Luhrman, while the work of Olivier Courbet is inspired by Days of Heaven (1978) by Terrence Malick.

The plot of Harold and Maude (1971) by Hal Ashby by Cheeky Design, while the sharp and retro design of Concepción Studios into an unprecedented vision of the great classic by Ridley Scott Blade Runner (1982).

Finally, in addition to the creation of the poster for the exhibition that brings together the most iconic couples in the history of cinema, Max Dalton is responsible for the reinterpretation of some of the most extraordinary love stories of all time: among these Titanic (1997) by James Cameron and Breakfast at Tiffany’s (1961) by Blake Edwards.

CRISTINA STIFANIC

The stylistic code of Soggettiva Gallery, which finds a constant stimulus in experimentation and dialogue with new realities, emerges in The Mood for Love with the collaboration between the Milanese artist of Croatian origins Cristina Stifanic and the Milano PrintMakers art printing house. From the confrontation the production of two unpublished works is realized, inspired respectively by The Misfits (1961) by John Houston and Mogambo (1953) by John Ford.
