The exhibition celebrates one of the most important film releases of the fall, KILLERS OF THE FLOWER MOON by MARTIN SCORSESE.
From Tuesday 17 October 2023
“MARTIN SCORSESE. KILLERS & FLOWERS”
The exhibition MARTIN SCORSESE. KILLERS & FLOWERS, from 17 October, refers to Killers of the Flower Moon – the latest film by Martin Scorsese presented out of competition at the Cannes Film Festival and out in Italian cinemas on October 19 – and pays homage to the career more than five years of one of the fathers of New Hollywood and cinema contemporary.
THE ARTWORKS
For the occasion, Soggettiva Gallery has commissioned four original works, three by Fredlobo Lopez, French illustrator and digital artist, and one by Stefania Gagliano, painter with other collaborations with the gallery: Fredlobo has reinterpreted great classics like Raging Bull, The Wolf of Wall Street – exuberant portrait of a certain American society that recently turned 10 – and The Last Temptation of Christ.
Stefania Gagliano, on the other hand, has ventured with The Age of Innocence – the cornerstone of the New York director’s poetics 30 years after its release in theaters – creating a limited edition print in which each copy is different from the other.
LOSE YOURSELF IN NEW YORK (BY TAXI)
If you love Taxi Driver you can not miss the unprecedented perspective through which Tomasz Majewski reinterpreted the film: the profile of De Niro, unforgettable in his interpretation of Travis Bickle, becomes one with the taxi service map of New York.
It is again the Big Apple to be the backdrop to Gangs of New York: The Alternative Movie Poster by Jessica Deahl offers a representation, halfway between anatomical study and geographical map, of New York in the mid-nineteenth century, the scene of bloody clashes between criminal gangs.
GANGSTERS WANNABE
For his third feature, Scorsese takes a looser approach to storytelling. With Mean Streets we don’t witness the epic rise and fall of powerful criminals, but the daily events of a group of low-level mafia. In Mean Street we can admire in an unfinished form the style of whom will soon become a Maestro.
ONE OF HIS DARKEST MOVIES
Shutter Island is one of Martin Scorsese’s most gothic, claustrophobic and airtight films. A relentless psycho-thriller, where not a single minute passes without that sense of anguish recreated also and above all with precise images, in which the blinding light alternates with the pitch dark.
overdose of images and sounds
Casino marks a clear break from Scorsese’s cinematic past: the hyperrealism of the narration, the violent and grotesque staging, the syncopated and frenetic montage stop being characteristic of a style and become an integral part of a story, a way of narrating events. Casino is like an immersion in apnea, a crazy and desperate race without moments of pause, an overdose of images, words, sounds.
